Who Has Been to Balesin?

The moment I stepped out of the 10-seater Cessna chartered flight, I knew that Balesin boasted an air of poshness beyond most of what I have experienced in my life as a traveller. It’s the kind of poshness that gives an unsuspecting visitor a certain sense of comfort – that universally, people are born to endure a good amount of extravagance: both natural and man-made. Balesin approximates our wildest fantasies of how classy island life can be. Me, I’m a lucky bastard to have to do this not just once. But thrice. I was hired to host a national campaign by Pedia OTX for the four brands namely, Nutrilin, Ceelin, Ferlin and Growee. A group of pediatricians were flown to Balesin for an R&R slash info-drive campaign promoting the four brands. The agency handling the campaign is Team On-Ground composed of amazing people who do the job excellently. I was also working with three other actors for one activity called Info-Teatro and these people are no second-rate names in the theater world: Johann dela Fuente (of Trumpets & Atlantis have played lead roles in Aladdin, Addams Family, to name a few), Mikkie Bradshaw (played the title role of Carrie the Musical by Atlantis, Rock of Ages, etc), and Gemini Quintos (who is a native of New York and is considerably a true-blue Broadway baby having done shows on and off-Broadway). I was just extremely honored to have met and worked with these wonderful people under the direction of no less than the man of the hour in UPV, Kevin Piamonte. (Hahaha! I know you guys are wondering, but seriously, Kevin is being picked on by sad souls in the university primarily because of his greatness. Being great invites envious bastards to go berserk, so yeah, let’s just pray they die green in envy). Balesin is owned by Alphaland (headed by Mr. Ongpin, yes). The island resort is well-laid out aesthetically, blending nature and architecture with such ease. Balesin is also ecologically self-sustaining because despite the absence of fresh water source, the developers created a

catch-basin for the island’s use as well as the cultivation of organic farms and the protection of its extremely diverse marine life. There is so much respect for the abundance of nature on this side of the planet and it adds to the experience that is Balesin. Another unique feature of the island is the “themed” villages that are exact replicas of some of the most famous destinations in the world: St. Tropez (France), Mykonos (Greece), Toscana (Italy), Costa del Sol (Spain), Bali (Indonesia), Phuket (Thailand) and of course, Balesin for our very own Philippines. Each village throws out a theme that gives you a sense of “being there” at that particular place: the food, the structures, the details, the music. Balesin has designed itself to cater to every whim a guest would want to be satisfied. All in high style. While Balesin is packaged to cater to a certain kind of traveller, it’s really all about communing with nature. The peaceful shores cutting the planet into half makes you feel limitless. And the absence of the rattling crowd, the buzzing vehicles, the blinding lights gives you the chance to take everything in, quite possibly, even if at first you feel that the grandeur is too much. This is officially my second experience of a lifetime right next to Batanes. Hmmm. There’s really something about the letter “B”, don’t you think, Bobby-friends? Balesin can be experienced via membership and if not for this project, I probably would never be able to experience it myself. Do check out their site here.
