Let the race begin!

In less than 24 hours, I will be on-board to Camarines Sur for the international triathlon event called Ironman. I have armed myself with a few things that I need for the virtual coverage that will give Azkals a run for their money. Kidding. My version of Ironman coverage will be a lot more intimate to the point that I’ll give you mostly the behind-the-scenes (BTS) perspective of this much-hyped event.

This year, as Timex is one of the major sponsors, Matteo Gudicelli will do the bike for Team Matteo Reborn. Why Reborn, I have no idea. Last year I think it was Piolo Pascual. You can imagine the kind of mayhem it must have cause to the usi on the house. I mean Piolo, running, sweating, and all that glistening tan under the CamSur sun? How can you not hyperventilate? But that’s not the point of Ironman. It’s the athleticism, the desire to achieve and push our limits as mankind. Cue music from Chariots of Fire.

I have secured my sunblock. I may be dark, but I think if I get any darker, I’d be scary. I have also chosen my most athletic set of wardrobe for the event, mostly by Adidas. I have mosquito repellents, oakleys, happy visors, running shoes, vitamin Cs, and the magic concoction I usually take in preparation for all the partying.

As for the coverage, I am well-equipped with my lappy, my Smartbro pocket wifi, my Globe 3G (I hope CamSur is covered by 3G — oh please), my ever-reliable paparazzi camera, and lots of spare batteries and memory cards. I am good to go just like the navy.

My full coverage will commence as soon as we arrive in Manila and I have spotted people all looking sporty and headed towards the gate which says: NAGA CITY.

Wish me luck.
