Putting Supsup in Shame-cy

Sep 16, 2011 by

Who else did that but her fellow Pinoys as well who were so obsessed over her not getting the crown as Miss Universe 2011. A few minutes after the results came out, rumors and speculations went viral online. I was so annoyed by the useless jokes and fantastical analogies about why Shamcey lost and how she could have gotten the title. But that’s the indicator that in times like Miss Universe, the online sphere drops its intelligible level to a record-breaking idiocy. I was going to not say anything about it, but the Oprah Winfrey scam struck a vein in me. It’s just so embarrassing. The world must be laughing at us and whoever made up that silly story should be put to jail.

Here goes (from Yahoo News):

This alleged statement of Oprah Winfrey was aired via NBC News: “I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point.”

But sorry to burst your bubble, the highly influential celebrity did not actually say that.

Answering a query on the alleged statement, a moderator on Oprah’s official website Oprah.com said Oprah has not issued “any comments of this nature.”

OWNModerator13 responded: “There is no truth to the statement. Ms. Winfrey has not made any comments of this nature. Thank you for asking.”

Why can’t we just be happy with what Shamcey has achieved? It’s a big freaking-deal to have made it to top 5, for chrissakes! Even Shamcey herself has said that she’s proud of her title and that Ms Angola deserves to be the Miss Universe.

Here’s one masterpiece that clearly reflects that way some of us have behaved regarding Shamcey’s almost-winning:

Whoever created this artpiece deserves to be given an exhibit spot at the CCP.
