Islas de Gigantes Memoirs

Jun 27, 2017 by

There’s nothing about Islas de Gigantes (located in Carles, Iloilo) that you haven’t read about. It’s all over the blogosphere, mainstream media, social media, etc. The place has been talked and written about in great detail that this blog will be none of those.

This is basically just my Gigantes photo album.

My friends and I went on a spontaneous pilgrimage to the enchanted islands of Gigantes back in 2014. Yes, this is a throwback. A seriously old throwback. I wasn’t able to post anything about it (and a lot MORE of my previous trips because I was busy as hell) so before my external drives melt in heat due to global warming, might as well immortalize them now.

The trip was one of the most memorable because we made a few mistakes.

1. We took a regular passenger boat from Estancia instead of getting a chartered boat in Carles (which was closer to the islands). It was roofless. It had the most upright wooden seat ever designed by man intentionally created to test the strength of your spinal column and your coccyx. And the boat sailed for two fucking hours. Roofless. Horrible wooden seat.

2. We invited our habal-habal drivers to drink with us after the island tour and made them take off their clothes. These guys had the best muscle formation I have seen and one of them even had a tattoo near their iliopsoas, it was strange. While we (Jasper, Von, Aivan, & Charmie) had fun poking at our newfound friends,  it was terrifying for our friend Bem-bem.

3. We got caught in a sudden thunderstorm burst while sailing in a small boat during the island hopping. I was extremely terrified and what made it worse was that the rest of my gang were singing LET IT GO. I completely lost it and was screaming at them to shut up.

For those of you who have not been to Gigantes, I don’t know what to say.

Formations that rock.
