Halloweening at Mushu Bacolod

Nov 4, 2013 by

One of my frustrations about Halloween Parties in Iloilo is that it isn’t as grand as the one being held annually at Mushu Restobar in Bacolod. While I have spent years of celebrating Halloween parties in Boracay since 2001 (and trust me, Boracay Halloween parties are.the.best!), Bacolod people take the Mushu Costume Party quite seriously. And it makes the event something everyone looks forward to. Costumes are well thought of; some are grand, some are cute, some look expensive, and some are just sheer creative. I was in Bacolod to visit my hometown Pulupandan and pay respects to my dad’s final resting place, so I wasn’t really there to party. Okay, this is the part where I actually explain why we were there and we weren’t in costumes. The idea of visiting Mushu was a spur-of-the-moment thing because our Mexican dinner with Ada and Elmer was just too awesome to end too quickly. So we decided to check out the Mushu Halloween Party and brought along Aileen and Udoy.

As more and more people arrived, Mushu transformed into an exciting universe filled with superheroes, with animals, with food, with ninja, with a smoking Jesus Christ, and all sorts of visually bombastic characters that came to life. The energy was explosive as people danced, posed for photos with one another, shared drinks and played roles/characters!

One of the event organizers who is also my friend, Frances Anne Lacson Gorriceta, was gracious enough to welcome my group (whom we refer to as commoners due to the fact that we were not wearing costumes! hahaha). What made the night even more surprising was when Anne asked me to judge the costume contest! It was absolutely fun and I loved going around asking people about their costumes. I must say the dancing that spilled all the way to the outdoor area of Mushu was too hot to handle. And I’m not complaining. ;-)

See you again next year, Mushu. This time I will bring my blokes and will definitely get all that needed Halloween attention with our costumes!

PS If you guys know the complete name/s of the personalities in costumes found in the photos posted here, please be kind enough to leave a message on the comments section so we can properly acknowledge them.

PSS Photos taken randomly by Elmer, Udoy, Aileen and Ada. Thanks, guys!
