Dragon Boats Conquer Iloilo River

Aug 25, 2013 by

The 2nd Senator Frank Drilon Cup Dragon Boat Competition highlighted the 2013 Charter Day Celebrations of Iloilo City last August 24. With the clear desire of the Senate President to promote Iloilo River as a tourist destination, Dragon Boat racing is an event truly fitting for the said purpose. And I say the campaign for public awareness about Iloilo River’s significance to Iloilo’s past and present glory is indeed successful.

tagging along the Iloilo team composed of mixed athletes coming from marathon, triathlon and cross-training enthusiasts. They were asked to come together and represent Iloilo City. They call themselves Iloilo Transition Paddlers and they are led by Mike Cortes with Tata Delicana and Jimmy Denolo. Having secured my camera for the event, I had the best spot along the pier wall for my photographic documentation.

The competition was participated in by professional teams from Boracay, UP, DLSU and Manila. Local teams from Iloilo were also competing for the Novice Category; John B Lacson Foundation Maritime University and St Therese MTCC. It was in this category that Iloilo Transition Paddlers belonged.

I will save you the trouble of my narration by letting the photos tell you the story. Congratulations to Iloilo Transition Paddlers for bagging the coveted champions title and special congratulations to St Therese MTCC for being such great (and strong) kids during the competition.
