Dinagyang Fever Officially Starts

Once again, I walked the streets of Iloilo after arriving from Bacolod yesterday as traffic was closed to give way to the parade of tribes in the Dinagyang Opening Salvo 2012. The atmosphere was festive and hyper. People watched and cheered and the drumbeats filled the air from downtown Iloilo all the way to the finale performance area which is at the Iloilo Sports Complex. I just can’t wait til the whole festival explodes as it nears climax this coming Jan 21-22. At 3 PM today (local time), Iloilo City once again was gripped by Dinagyang fever on its Opening Salvo. When the first drum beat was heard at Freedom Grandstand, the whole city stopped and the people converged on the parade routes – watching the spectacle and supporting their favorite tribes.
