Why does it always have to be in LA?

Battle: Los Angeles is another alien-invasion film set in Los Angeles. Not a year goes by that a film about meteors pulverizing a city, or a Mayan prediction taking place, or molten mantle eating up celebrities, or vehicles that morph into cool robots skips the city of Los Angeles. It’s a city meant to represent a perfect catastrophic formula.

The film stars Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez as part of the military groupie destined to fight the aliens with complete suicidal attempt. The film does not have much to say except that it’s literally a war between humans and the invading aliens. The narrative is filled in with unnecessary drama of the individual characters so lame I had to say this several times: stop yakking and show me the aliens already!!!

Don't always trust the poster.

The camera work is shaky and although the intention is to somewhat create a sense of chaos, it only sent me to a vertiginous state. The musical scoring was too annoying and instead of helping create suspense, it only added to the already messy sound engineering — bullets swishing, buildings collapsing, bombs exploding, planes and machines hovering all over the place.

If you loved Independence Day, Armageddon, Deep Impact and all else mushy in the guise of an apocalypse, then this one is for you.

Apocalyptic movies are my thing, I love watching humanity prevail when they are about to be extinct. :P Visceral visual effects although not much of a storyline. Pure Eye Candy I heard.

Yup, the storyline is thin and the visuals aren’t as arresting as I expected it to be. But I do have a share of apocalyptic movie faves. hehe!
