2013: A Kick Ass Year It Was

Jan 21, 2014 by

I know this would appear like another ‘year-end’ review blog that you’re probably sick of already at this point, but please indulge a guy who hasn’t blogged for… hmmm… half the year last year. Hahaha! I have been crazy busy both in good and bad stuff that happened in a series of interesting events. So I thought, what better way to reactivate my online presence (other than on Facebook) but to recall some highlights of my life in 2013? My 2013 kicked off with quite a bang. I celebrated the 2013 New Year’s countdown in Hongkong. It was a wonderful trip because other than being on an adventure in a foreign land on New Year’s, I have met some wonderful friends along the way. My earlier months in 2013 were also exciting especially when we were able to pull

off some events both within and outside the university. My 2013 summer was also awesome. I was able to see the mystically elusive Batanes (thanks to PAL Express for opening flights to the region). I wrote an entire blog dedicated to that life-changing trip and you can find it here. In the field of performing arts, we also made plans of staging Les Miserables in Iloilo and held massive auditions. We have seen enormous talents from all walks of life, unfortunately the directors have not found the right Jean Valjean. The project had to be shelved. In August, the UPV Hublag Dance Company also staged ICONOPOP 2.0 to a roaring success. Plans are being brewed to restage the show this February in celebration of the Philippine Arts Month. But before the year ended, we came together to stage a family-oriented musical entitled “Happy Feet” at Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus. And yes, it’s still running until January 17th of this year.

Happy Feet rocked Iloilo! We have just completed 19 full-house shows in Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus! Will write a separate blog about it.

It was also in 2013 when I attempted to get myself into health and fitness. Tried getting some training at the gym and did TRX with Coaches Mike and Tata. It was an awesome experience, but I need to brush up on my sense of “athletic dedication.” So for now, I’m just back to being a regular guy who spends weekends at the watering hole. Hahaha! One highlight of my 2013 was not Yolanda. It was when I got detained for a vehicular accident that I got involved in. The other party (on a motorbike) passed away. Not because I was reckless, but because he wasn’t wearing a helmet. He was also driving under the influence of alcohol. It happened at an unholy hour of a Sunday evening, so it was so hard to pull strings so I could avoid being held in the police station. It was one of the scariest (if not the scariest) moments of my life — and it was also the most valuable life learning experience. I have learned that my true friends stayed with me through the entire ordeal & that some government officials whom I thought were my friends are useless bastards so I swore to myself that I will never do anything for the government anymore. After the incident, some government agencies called me up for my services in training and research and I was soooo delighted to turn them down like a real bitch.
The EPIC "zelda" moment of my 2013 (here in this photo with Yen). It was truly an unforgettable experience that's one for the books.

But for all its worth, my 2013 was a year filled with exciting events. I’m just a bit sad that my blogging activity spiraled down to almost a halt. I’m thankful for all the blessings that came pouring down at the most unexpected moments. This blog may not cover everything that matters to me, but I’m not about to bore you with that. So let’s all look forward to 2014! Cheers!
